PDP’s Atiku Abubakar Hints at Possible Alliance with Labour Party’s Peter Obi
PDP’s Atiku Abubakar Hints at Possible Alliance with Labour Party’s Peter Obi: Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has revealed that he would support the Labour Party’s presidential candidate,
Peter Obi, in the 2027 general elections if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zones
the presidential ticket to the South-East. Atiku, the PDP’s presidential flag bearer in the
2023 general election, made this disclosure in a recent interview with the BBC Hausa Service.
Atiku explained that he contested the 2023 presidential election because the race was open to
all members of the party, but if the PDP decides to zone the ticket to the South-East,
he would abide by the party’s decision and support Peter Obi. He also hinted at the
possibility of a merger between the PDP and Labour Party, stating that the members of the party would decide his fate in the 2027 general elections.
the meeting
Atiku’s recent meeting with Peter Obi has sparked speculation about a possible
alliance leading up to the 2027 general elections. However, Atiku downplayed the meeting,
describing it as a normal friendly meeting among opposition party members. He also dismissed
concerns that the choice of presidential candidate might frustrate merger discussions, stating
that the party’s decision would be respected.
Despite his advanced age, Atiku remains committed to active politics, stating that he is not
tired of politics and will continue to play a role as long as God permits. He also emphasized that his age does not prevent younger individuals from testing their fate in politics.
Regarding his 2027 presidential ambition, Atiku stated that it would depend on the decision of his party, and he cannot make any categorical statements until the party decides on the way forward. He emphasized the importance of democracy and the need for political friends and associates to meet and discuss the future of the country.
