Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has openly declared his intention to challenge the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, signaling a major political shift following the recent convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking after the party’s national convention held in Abuja, Amaechi stated that removing the current government in the next election has become a firm and uncompromising objective for the party. Now emerging as a key presidential hopeful under the ADC platform, he described the outcome of the convention as a clear indication of rising support and renewed political energy within the party.
Amaechi criticized the current administration, accusing it of failing to respond effectively to the needs and struggles of Nigerians. He argued that the government lacks the democratic sensitivity required to address the country’s pressing challenges. According to him, the ADC is working towards building a strong coalition of political forces to confront what he described as poor governance by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He stressed that Nigerians have endured significant hardship and called on party members to remain united in their mission. Amaechi urged stakeholders within the ADC to set aside personal ambitions and rally behind a single credible candidate, noting that unity would be critical to achieving electoral success.
In addition to his criticisms, Amaechi outlined a broader vision focused on national transformation. He spoke of plans to build a “new Nigeria” under ADC leadership, with priorities including enhanced security, improved transparency, and rebuilding public confidence in government institutions.
He assured that, if given the mandate, his administration would focus on safeguarding lives and property while ensuring accountability and responsible governance.
