Former Sokoto State Governor and current Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, made a grand entry into Sokoto metropolis on Friday, greeted by an overwhelming crowd of supporters from Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states. Political analysts view the massive turnout as a strategic display of influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Thousands of party faithful, women’s groups, youth associations, and devoted followers thronged the streets in a vibrant procession, singing solidarity songs and brandishing banners that signaled their determination to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Tambuwal, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives and Director General of Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, seized the moment to lash out at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC-led administration, blaming them for Nigeria’s worsening economic crisis, insecurity, and political instability.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Tambuwal recalled his warnings during the 2023 elections, asserting that Tinubu’s leadership would plunge Nigeria into chaos—a prediction he claimed has now materialized.
“We warned Nigerians not to entrust their future to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a man whose governance would turn this nation into what I termed ‘Bola’s Garbage.’ Today, the hunger, hardship, and despair ravaging our land confirm our fears,” he declared, eliciting roaring applause from the audience.
The senator urged Nigerians from all regions and political leanings to unite and mobilize for the 2027 elections, insisting that the Tinubu administration has only brought suffering and must be voted out.
“Our mission is clear: we must join hands to remove the APC and Tinubu in 2027. The ADC and our allies will mobilize every part of this country to achieve this goal. We will not be cowed, we will not be silenced, and we will not stand by while Nigerians endure endless suffering,” he vowed.
Tambuwal also dismissed recent reports of his interrogation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing his appearance before the anti-graft agency as voluntary and inconsequential. He denied allegations of misappropriating over ₦2 billion monthly from Sokoto State’s coffers, dismissing the claims as baseless and politically motivated.
“My visit to the EFCC was entirely voluntary, and I was released on self-recognition as a holder of the national honour of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR). The accusations that I withdrew ₦2 billion monthly from the state treasury are outright falsehoods. How much does Sokoto even receive from federal allocations monthly?” he questioned.
He accused the Sokoto State government of orchestrating a witch-hunt against him, pointing out that a previous investigative panel had cleared him of any wrongdoing.
“They can set up a hundred fake probes, but they will find nothing. I will not be intimidated by anyone. The truth will always prevail,” Tambuwal declared defiantly.
The event underscored Tambuwal’s enduring political relevance in the North-West and his readiness to lead opposition forces against the APC in the next election cycle.
