Tinubu: Our Reforms Are Designed to Build Stronger Economy for Nigerians

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated that the economic reforms introduced by his administration are aimed at improving the Nigerian economy and securing a stronger future for citizens.

Tinubu stated this on Wednesday while giving an update on the reforms implemented since he assumed office in 2023 and their impact on the country.

The President said he had directed the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, to present Nigerians with a detailed account of the reforms, including the choices made, progress recorded and challenges that remain.

Oyedele presented the details at a press conference on Wednesday titled “Nigeria’s Reforms Scorecard.”

According to Tinubu, the reforms were introduced with the objective of building an economy that works better for Nigerians and creating a stronger country for future generations.

“When we began this journey of reform in 2023, I promised that the difficult decisions we were making would serve the purpose of building an economy that works better for you and a country that is stronger for our children,” the President said.

Tinubu said the Reforms Scorecard would provide Nigerians with information on what the reforms had achieved, the costs associated with them and the potential economic problems the measures were intended to prevent.

“Today, your government presents The Reforms Scorecard. It sets out what our reforms have achieved, what they have cost us, and the greater costs and harms we have prevented by acting when we did,” he said.

The President explained that he tasked Oyedele with providing Nigerians with a comprehensive explanation of the figures and decisions behind the reforms.

“I have therefore directed the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, to give an account to Nigerians, to explain the numbers, the choices we have made, the progress recorded, and the work that remains,” Tinubu said.

He stressed that the explanation was necessary because Nigerians were the owners of the country and had a right to understand the impact of government policies on their lives and livelihoods.

“You deserve to see the numbers. You deserve to know what has changed and what these reforms mean for you, your family, your business and our country,” he said.

Tinubu added that the presentation represented the government’s account to citizens and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to communicating the progress and challenges associated with its reform programme.

“This is your government. This is your country. This is our account to you,” the President stated.
