In the letter, Apapa requested the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to dismiss all cases filed by the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against the emergence of the All Progressives Congress’ Bola Tibubu in the February 25 General election.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the party’s acting National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, urged the Tribunal to ignore Apapa’s request and stated that Apapa is a suspended Deputy National Chairman of the party. He also called on the police, DSS, and EFCC to arrest the suspended members of the party who are working against democracy.

Ifoh further spoke on the Politics Today program on Channels Television, where he alleged that Apapa is seeking to jeopardize Obi’s victory with his action. He stated that “approaching the tribunals to withdraw all the cases lodged by Labour Party candidates across board is the height of subterfuge and treachery, and Nigerians will resist this ploy to plunge the nation into unnecessary turmoil.”

The leadership of the Labour Party is therefore calling on the tribunals to disregard any letter emanating from the suspended National Legal Adviser, Samuel Akingbade, requesting the withdrawal of all cases.

In response, Apapa insists that he is the party’s acting national chairman, and since the court has suspended Abure and other national officers, he is the next in line to take over.

This development has caused confusion and controversy within the party, as it is unclear who holds the position of the national chairman of the party. The party’s leadership has accused Apapa of working against the party’s interest and attempting to disrupt the democratic process.

The outcome of this dispute will have significant implications for the Labour Party’s future, especially as the country prepares for the 2023 General election. The party needs to resolve the leadership crisis as soon as possible to avoid further divisions and confusion.
