JAMB Warns Institutions Over Matriculation List Violations, Demands Compliance Within Seven Days

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a strong warning to some tertiary institutions for breaching the established protocols concerning the submission of matriculation lists. According to JAMB’s weekly bulletin released on Monday, several institutions failed to adhere to the required process of uploading their matriculation lists, an action that not only violates official admission procedures but could also invalidate the admission status of affected students. Although JAMB refrained from naming the defaulting institutions, it revealed that those involved have acknowledged their mistakes and have offered formal apologies.

The institutions reportedly requested leniency and pledged to correct the violations by submitting the outstanding matriculation lists within a seven-day period. During a recent meeting in Abuja with the heads of the affected institutions, JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, criticized the institutions’ conduct, calling it a deviation from expected norms. He pointed out that while some institutions properly processed admissions through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), they failed to follow through with the mandatory matriculation of admitted students.

Professor Oloyede emphasized that matriculation is a legal and procedural requirement as stated in Section 23(7) of the JAMB admission guidelines. Institutions must upload their full matriculation lists to enable JAMB to assess compliance before granting approval for matriculation ceremonies. Failure to do so may lead to conditional approvals or complete rejection.

The Registrar reiterated that any student whose name does not appear on the official National Matriculation List would be regarded as not legitimately admitted. He stressed that such irregular admissions would not be recognized or tolerated by JAMB.

Although JAMB accepted the institutions’ apologies, it made it clear that accountability must be upheld. All affected institutions were instructed to submit official apology letters through CAPS within 24 hours and complete the uploading of outstanding matriculation lists within seven days from August 18. Furthermore, JAMB directed that all affiliate institutions must operate strictly through their parent institutions, with designated supervisors ensuring full compliance with regulations.
