—— Says none of the panel reports across the states mentioned or indicted Kanu in connection with the 2020 nationwide protests.
A Public Affairs Analyst and Financial Secretary, Guild of Public Affairs Analysts of Nigeria, Enugu State Chapter, Umeh Clinton, made this known while speaking on a topic “ The State Of The Nation,” on Freedom Square, a programme on Solid FM, 100.9, anchored by Uchenna Cyril Anioke.
Umeh, clarified that the ENDSARS Judicial Panels of Inquiry never indicted the detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, dismissing attempts to link the panels reports to the recent conviction delivered by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Umeh stated that the ENDSARS panels were established strictly to investigate allegations of police brutality, extrajudicial killings, and abuses by the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
According to him, “the issue of ENDSARS in Lagos, there was a panel set up by the Lagos State Government. That panel never mentioned Nnamdi Kanu for once. That would have formed a defence for any serious lawyer in the court room. How can you talk of him inciting ENDSARS when a panel that was set up never gave necessary information in connection to his name . Barrister Ejiofor called them tiktok content creators as lawyers. He described it as affordable judicial ambush that led to Nnamdi Kanu’s conviction. He blamed what he called amateur legal showmen and entertainers in wigs for the ruling years of strategic legal planning.”
He described the court judgement linking Nnamdi Kanu to the ENDSARS narratives as misleading aimed at creating confusion around Kanu’s legal challenges.
Umeh stressed that Kanu’s conviction by the Federal High Court was based on charges presented by the federal government and had no relationship with the findings or recommendations of any ENDSARS panel.
He therefore called for a more responsible conversation around national security matters, emphasizing that clarity and factual accuracy are essential for maintaining peace and fostering informed civic engagement.
