Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has appointed Hon. Dr. Chinedu Onu as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, with the appointment taking effect immediately.
The appointment was contained in an announcement issued by the Enugu State Government on **September 4, 2026**, listing new appointments to the governing boards and key institutions across the state.
Onu’s appointment places an experienced entrepreneur, politician and public administrator at the helm of the governing council of one of Enugu State’s foremost tertiary institutions, with expectations that his experience in business, education and public administration will contribute to the institution’s development.
Born on January 4, 1970, in Ozalla Ezimo, Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Onu is the Chief Executive Officer of Ingrace Group, an indigenous business conglomerate with interests including the promotion of Nigerian-manufactured vehicles, Onu is also the Founder and President of Michael Okpara Leadership and Entrepreneurial Centre, (MOLEC), UNN.
He has also played a role in the education sector, having previously served as Chairman of the Governing Council of Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo.
His experience in education and human-capital development also extends to the Adada Education Foundation, which he founded to support young people through educational and capacity-building initiatives, including assistance with tuition funding.
Onu holds a Ph.D. in Peace and Development Studies from Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), as well as a degree in Political Science from the institution. He also obtained a National Certificate in Education from Nwafor Orizu College of Education and attended St. Theresa’s College, Nsukka, for his secondary education.
His appointment to the IMT Governing Council also comes against the backdrop of his previous public comments on developments in Enugu’s technical and tertiary education sector.
In a 2025 media discussion, Onu commended Governor Mbah’s administration for what he described as efforts to revive technical education and reposition institutions such as IMT. He particularly highlighted investments and reforms in technical education as part of the administration’s broader development agenda.
The appointment therefore brings together Onu’s experience in entrepreneurship, education advocacy and public administration with the state government’s ongoing efforts to reposition its tertiary institutions.
As Chairman of the IMT Governing Council, he is expected to work with other council members and the institution’s management to strengthen institutional governance, support academic and technical development, and contribute to policies aimed at improving the quality and relevance of education at IMT.
The Enugu State Government’s September 4 announcement also named new chairmen, members and secretaries for the governing councils of other tertiary institutions and agencies across the state.
For Onu, the new responsibility marks another chapter in a career that has combined entrepreneurship, politics, education advocacy and public service, while placing him once again at the centre of efforts to shape the future of technical and tertiary education in Enugu State.
