The Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District and Chairman, Senate Committee on Nigerian Air Force, Distinguished Senator Osita Ngwu, has commended the authors of the book, “History and Lessons from the Nigerian Civil War (Chronologically Arranged),” for their commitment to documenting Nigeria’s history and drawing valuable lessons from the nation’s painful past.
Senator Ngwu made the commendation at the public launch of the book, authored by Obioma N. Ikechi, Uchenna Cyril Anioke, Ph.D., and James I. Egwuonwu, where he was represented by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Luke Mgboh.
Speaking at the ceremony, Senator Ngwu described writing as a brave act, applauding the authors for their courage and dedication to preserving historical knowledge for present and future generations.
According to the Senator, “Writing is not just about perfect grammar or complex words, but about human connection.”
He noted that History and Lessons from the Nigerian Civil War is not merely another publication on the Nigerian Civil War, but an important reminder of the nation’s history and a conscious call for Nigerians, particularly the younger generation, to study the past and draw meaningful lessons from it.
Senator Ngwu stressed that understanding the circumstances and consequences of the Civil War is essential to building a more peaceful, united and prosperous Nigeria. He urged Nigerians to embrace the lessons contained in the book and use them to promote dialogue, tolerance, understanding and peaceful coexistence.
The lawmaker further commended the authors for contributing to the promotion of reading culture and intellectual development, noting that a society that reads, reflects and learns from its history is better positioned to build a stronger and more progressive future.
He encouraged students, academics, policymakers and the general public to read the book, describing such efforts as important investments in knowledge and national development.
The ceremony attracted a broad spectrum of participants, including policymakers, academics, students, members of civil society and the general public, reflecting the significance of the subject matter and the growing need for deeper engagement with Nigeria’s history.
Senator Ngwu reiterated his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote education, intellectual development, historical awareness and national unity, stressing that the lessons of history must continue to guide the choices and actions of present and future generations.
