The Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) has demanded a comprehensive investigation into allegations of false cancer claims and possible misuse of donations involving social media figure Blessing Okoro, widely known as Blessing CEO, following growing public concern over her fundraising activities.

In a statement released by its National Director of Publicity, Bashir Mohammed Ranccas, the organisation said the controversy has triggered serious questions about credibility and accountability, particularly in an area as sensitive as cancer support and advocacy.
According to the Society, the influencer had reportedly appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance, claiming to be battling a serious health condition, and subsequently received significant donations from members of the public moved by her situation. However, recent claims suggesting possible misrepresentation have raised doubts about the authenticity of her story.
Describing the situation as troubling and ethically questionable, the NCS cautioned that exploiting cancer narratives for personal benefit could erode public trust and negatively impact genuine patients who depend on such goodwill for survival.
The organisation stressed that cancer should never be used as a means of manipulation, warning that if the allegations are proven, such actions could undermine years of advocacy work and discourage people from offering support to those truly in need.
It further disclosed plans to involve relevant security agencies to carry out a thorough probe into the matter, with a view to ensuring that anyone found guilty is held accountable.
The Society also advised patients and their families to rely only on verified and credible platforms when seeking public donations, noting that it provides structured systems to support fundraising efforts and patient care.
While urging donors and stakeholders to remain cautious, the NCS reiterated that honesty, transparency, and integrity are essential in sustaining trust in the ongoing fight against cancer.
