Former Bayelsa State Governor and chieftain of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has revealed that his recent meeting with former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, focused on resolving internal disagreements within the party in Kano State.
Dickson disclosed this in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday following a meeting with Kwankwaso and other senior officials of the party at his residence.
According to him, the engagement formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen unity within the NDC and foster cooperation between party stakeholders in Kano State and Kwankwaso, whom he described as the party’s leader in the state and its vice-presidential candidate.
The former governor noted that as the NDC continues to gain momentum as a major opposition platform in Nigeria, differences of opinion and internal disagreements are inevitable. He, however, stressed that such issues are being addressed through dialogue, consultation and reconciliation.
Dickson expressed optimism that the outcome of the discussions would enhance cohesion within the party and position it for greater success in future elections.
“We had fruitful discussions aimed at promoting unity and strengthening our collective resolve as a party. As the NDC continues to grow across the country, we remain committed to resolving internal issues through constructive engagement and mutual understanding,” he said.
He further identified the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the Obidient Movement as critical support structures for the party, disclosing that plans were underway to formally integrate their members into the activities of the NDC nationwide.
According to Dickson, he had earlier received a delegation from the Obidient Movement and assured its members of their inclusion in the party’s operations at various levels across the country.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement, the Obidient Movement and other support groups remain valuable mobilisation networks. I had earlier received a courtesy delegation from the Obidient Movement and promised to ensure their integration into the activities of our party at various levels across the country,” he stated.
He added that similar arrangements were being made for members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, noting that party officials had requested a list of coordinators from the group to facilitate their integration into the NDC.
Dickson said the process would be carried out in a structured and orderly manner to ensure effective participation of all support groups within the party’s framework.
The latest move comes amid efforts by the NDC leadership to consolidate its growing support base and strengthen internal cohesion ahead of future political contests.
