Premier League Club Liverpool have completed the signing of highly-rated France Under-21 defender Jeremy Jacquet from Ligue 1 side Rennes in a deal reportedly worth up to £60 million ($79 million).
The 20-year-old centre-back has signed a five-year contract at Anfield, with the club holding the option of extending the deal by a further 12 months, subject to international clearance.
Although Liverpool reached an agreement for the defender during the January transfer window, the move was only finalised on Wednesday, with Jacquet now set to join the squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The French defender is expected to be available from the start of Liverpool’s pre-season preparations after recovering from a shoulder injury sustained in February, which ruled him out for the closing stages of the 2025/26 season.
Speaking after completing the transfer, Jacquet expressed his excitement at joining the Merseyside club.
“I feel really good, the first impressions are good and I am very happy to start here,” he told Liverpool’s official website.
“It’s a big dream for me.”
Jacquet arrives at Anfield with a growing reputation as one of France’s brightest young defensive talents.
A product of Rennes’ renowned youth academy, he made 33 senior appearances for the Ligue 1 club after progressing through their development system.
He also gained valuable first-team experience during the 2024/25 campaign while on loan at Clermont, where his performances further enhanced his reputation and attracted interest from several top European clubs.
Liverpool moved decisively to secure his signature as part of the club’s long-term plans to strengthen its defensive options.
The signing represents another significant investment in youth by the Reds, who continue to build a squad capable of competing for major honours both domestically and in Europe.
Jacquet is expected to compete for a place in Liverpool’s first-team defence when preparations for the new season begin.
