In a show of appreciation and commendation, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has expressed its gratitude to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for his unwavering commitment to the unity of Nigeria. During a farewell gathering at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Enugu Press Centre, MACBAN representatives commended the outgoing governor for fostering a robust relationship between their members and the people of Enugu State over the past eight years.
Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, the National Director General (Admin) of MACBAN, highlighted Governor Ugwuanyi’s remarkable demonstration of a pan-Nigerian spirit and inclusive leadership during his tenure. Siddiki acknowledged the governor’s humane nature and his “live and let live” approach to life, which has contributed to a harmonious coexistence between indigenes and members of MACBAN in the state. He further emphasized that Governor Ugwuanyi recognizes Nigeria as a united entity, where citizens are free to live and earn their livelihoods, irrespective of their backgrounds, as long as they are law-abiding.
Siddiki praised Governor Ugwuanyi’s compassionate response in times of challenges, particularly when criminal elements infiltrated the ranks of herdsmen, causing pain and loss to both parties. Despite these trying circumstances, the governor steadfastly refused to succumb to orchestrated attempts to demonize a particular group, acknowledging the historical peaceful cohabitation between indigenes and MACBAN members. Siddiki commended the governor’s unwavering stance against blanket profiling and stereotyping, which distinguishes him as an exceptional leader and statesman.
The MACBAN representative expressed hope that the governor’s successor would follow in his footsteps by treating their members with kindness. He also extended their willingness to collaborate with the government in tracking down marauders and ensuring the safety of the people in Enugu State.
Alhaji Abubakar Sambo, the leader of the Hausa community in Enugu State, lauded MACBAN for acknowledging Governor Ugwuanyi’s efforts and creating a conducive environment for their business activities. Sambo recognized the governor’s wisdom in fostering an atmosphere of peaceful coexistence and the spirit of “live and let live” in the state, despite the challenges faced. He expressed deep gratitude for the governor’s remarkable leadership, particularly in a state that shares borders with numerous northern communities, making it a gateway to southern Nigeria.
Sambo also urged herders to exercise control over their members and educate them about the peaceful atmosphere in Enugu State. By doing so, they can avoid actions that could strain the harmonious relationship with the host community.
The farewell gathering served as a testament to Governor Ugwuanyi’s commitment to fostering unity and harmony among diverse communities within Enugu State. His recognition of Nigeria’s collective identity and his efforts to promote peaceful coexistence have won him praise from MACBAN and the Hausa community, showcasing his role as a distinguished leader and statesman. The expressed hope for his legacy to endure and for his successor to continue building on the foundation of inclusivity and understanding.
