BREAKING: Tinubu Nominates Tegbe as Minister of Power, Awaits Senate Confirmation

Bola Ahmed Tinubu has put forward Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, pending approval by the National Assembly. The announcement was made on Wednesday by presidential aide Olusegun Dada in a statement shared on X, confirming that the nomination has been formally transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation in accordance with constitutional requirements.

The nomination comes in the wake of the resignation of former Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue an elective political position. Providing further details, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga described Tegbe as a seasoned expert in fiscal policy and economic reforms, with more than three decades of experience across both public and private sectors.

Tegbe previously served as a Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he spearheaded initiatives related to fiscal restructuring, institutional reforms, and governance improvements. Over the years, he has advised several government bodies and private organisations on policy development, regulatory systems, and investment strategies.

Currently, Tegbe holds the position of Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he oversees efforts to deepen cooperation between Nigeria and China. In this role, he also coordinates engagements with stakeholders to drive economic and social development aligned with the objectives of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

His professional background also includes extensive involvement in Nigeria’s power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reforms. He has worked closely with agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company, contributing to policy and structural improvements within the industry.
