BREAKING : TRIBUNAL RESCHEDULES SITTING FOR TUESDAY

The hearing of the petitions filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal has been postponed. The tribunal, which was expected to commence the hearing on Monday, has rescheduled it for Tuesday. This development comes after heightened security measures were put in place around the venue in Abuja, as reported by SaharaReporters.

The initial outcome of the February 25 presidential election declared Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner. However, several parties, including the PDP, Labour Party (LP), Action Alliance (AA), APM, and Action Peoples Party (APP), filed petitions challenging Tinubu’s victory.

It is worth noting that the APM had endorsed Atiku as its candidate ahead of the presidential election. However, Princess ChiChi Ojei, the APM candidate, expressed her discontent with the party’s decision, describing it as despicable and a setback for Nigerian women.

The APM’s petition at the tribunal includes the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC, Tinubu, Kashim Shettima, and Kabir Masari as respondents. The APM argues that Tinubu and Shettima were not eligible to contest the election due to the alleged double nomination of the vice president-elect.

In addition to the APM’s allegations, the Action Peoples Party (APP) has accused Tinubu of manipulating the presidential election in his favor.

The postponement of the hearing of these petitions prolongs the anticipation surrounding their outcomes. As the tribunal reconvenes on Tuesday, all eyes will be on the proceedings, which hold significant implications for the political landscape of the country.

While the delay may cause frustration among the parties involved, it also provides them with additional time to prepare their arguments and present their cases more effectively. As the legal battle unfolds, it remains to be seen how the tribunal will evaluate the claims made by the petitioners and respond to the issues raised.

The outcome of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal will have far-reaching consequences, not only for the individuals directly involved but also for the overall democratic process in Nigeria. Citizens and political observers eagerly await the tribunal’s decision, as it will shape the future direction of the nation’s political landscape.
