Tinubu Warns Buhari: Anticipate Criticism Regardless of Location

In an address at the Investiture Ceremony in Abuja, President-elect Bola Tinubu issued a warning to outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari, stating that he should expect criticism and scrutiny regardless of his whereabouts, whether it be his hometown of Daura, Katsina state, or even neighboring Niger Republic. The remarks were made in anticipation of Buhari’s relocation after the inauguration ceremony on Monday.

Tinubu, acknowledging the support and trust of the Nigerian people, expressed his commitment to fulfilling the responsibilities bestowed upon him. He emphasized the need to make progress in critical areas such as security, the economy, agriculture, job creation, education, health, and power. The President-elect pledged not to disappoint the citizens or President Buhari.

The timing of Tinubu’s statement coincides with President Buhari’s recent comments regarding seeking refuge in Niger Republic if there is unrest following his departure from office on May 29, 2023. Buhari’s intention to hand over power to Tinubu, who has been declared the “President-elect,” further highlights the significance of their exchange.

President Buhari had earlier expressed confidence in Tinubu’s ability to maintain the momentum of his administration, particularly in supporting the Nigerian Navy. During the Presidential Fleet Review in Lagos, Buhari assured that Tinubu’s incoming administration would provide the necessary assistance to the Navy, enabling them to effectively carry out their duties in securing Nigeria’s maritime environment and utilizing its abundant resources for national development.

The interaction between Tinubu and Buhari sets the stage for a smooth transition of power, with the incoming President vowing to build upon the achievements of the previous administration. As the transition of power approaches, Nigerians eagerly await the commencement of Tinubu’s presidency and the steps he will take to tackle the nation’s challenges.

The spotlight will be on his administration’s efforts to enhance security, stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities, improve education and healthcare, and ensure adequate power supply. The Nigerian population demands tangible progress in these areas and a commitment to good governance.
