We have apprehended 352 drug traffickers- NDLEA: The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been making tremendous efforts in
curbing drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria. In a recent development, the agency has announced
the arrest of 352 suspects and the seizure of 2.1 tonnes of illicit drugs in Kano State, a major center of drug trafficking in Nigeria.
NDLEA Commander, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, disclosed that the seizures and arrests were made
between January and March, representing a significant achievement in the agency’s ongoing efforts
to tackle drug trafficking and abuse in the country. The suspects arrested comprised 208 males and
44 females, while the seized drugs included 955.304 kg of cannabis sativa and 1,225.05 kg of Codeine
Tramadol, which are commonly abused opioids in Nigeria.

Additionally, the NDLEA also seized 25 grams of cocaine, 17 grams of heroin, and 52 grams of
methamphetamine, all hard drugs that pose a significant threat to public health and safety.
In his statement, Idris-Ahmad emphasized the importance of creating awareness about the dangers
of drug use and trafficking in society. He urged the general public to provide useful and timely
information on drug traffickers to the command to enable them to be apprehended and taken out
of circulation.
The NDLEA’s efforts in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse are crucial in preventing the spread
of drug-related crimes and their associated negative impacts on individuals and communities. By arresting
hundreds of suspects and seizing a large quantity of drugs, the agency has taken a significant step towards
creating a drug-free society.
Hub Of Drug Trafficking
The agency’s work is particularly important in Kano State, which is a known hub of drug trafficking
in Nigeria. The state is a major transit point for drugs from other West African countries en route to
Europe, Asia, and North America. Therefore, the NDLEA’s efforts in the state are critical in curbing the flow of drugs both in Nigeria and globally
