LABOUR PARTY PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE PETER OBI, INSISTS HE MUST BE NIGERIA’S PRESIDENT

Former Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi, and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the previous election, has expressed his unwavering determination to become the President of Nigeria.

Speaking at the launch of a book titled “Peter Obi: Many Voices, One Perspective” in Awka, Anambra State, Obi emphasized that he firmly believes he will occupy the presidential seat, either today or in the future.

Obi, currently engaged in a legal battle with the winner of the recently concluded election, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, made it clear that he has no intention of leaving the country or seeking dual citizenship.

Despite facing challenges and discouragement, Obi stressed his commitment to Nigeria, highlighting his relentless pursuit of justice during a three-year legal battle to reclaim his governorship.

While addressing the audience, Obi stated that his ultimate goal is to ensure that the right thing is done in the country. He expressed his belief in accountability, emphasizing that he would not resort to bribing individuals to achieve his political ambitions.

Drawing from his experience as the chairman of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) committee, Obi highlighted the importance of adhering to ethical conduct and urged the current chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood, to fulfill his role as an impartial umpire.

Obi also drew attention to a recent report from the World Food Organisation, which predicted a severe hunger crisis in Nigeria in the coming years. Expressing concern for the country’s future, he stressed the urgency of cultivating a culture of doing the right thing to avert potential disaster.

Obi noted that Nigeria’s inability to feed itself while countries like Egypt export food is a troubling disparity that must be addressed.

During the book launch, Professor Chinyere Okunna, one of the editors, explained that the event aimed to raise funds for Obi’s legal battle before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT).

Okunna praised Obi’s humility, education, love for the people, experience, and knowledge, asserting that he stood out among the other presidential candidates. She called on the judiciary to uphold justice and make the right decision in the ongoing legal proceedings.
