Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has allayed concerns over his future at the club, saying he and the club are “very much aligned” on a new contract.

Arteta, whose current deal runs until 2027, made the clarification on Friday ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Brighton.

The Spaniard said negotiations over an extension were progressing and that both parties shared the same ambition.

“I think we are all very much aligned and whenever the time is right we will get it done. There is nothing to be concerned about,” Arteta said.

He added that he was unsure whether the new agreement would be concluded during the upcoming international break, as was the case with his previous contract extension.

“I don’t know if the timing will be the same or different. We both have the same ambition and the same will, so whenever we have time we will get that resolved,” he said. 

Arteta has been Arsenal manager since December 2019 and recently guided the club to a strong start to their Premier League title defence, with four consecutive league victories.

Arsenal will face Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday before the league pauses for an extended international break.
