Communique: Report of the representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops to the Resolution of the crisis in Ohanaeze and unity of Ndigbo.

The Concerned Stakeholders of Alaigbo and representatives of Ohaneze affiliate association in Nigeria and beyond had a meeting which according to the communique issued is considered to be extraordinary. The extraordinary meeting was held on Wednesday 11th May 2022 at the Chike Nwizu Hall Cathedral Church of Good Shepherd, Achi Street, independence Layout Enugu. The meeting was chaired by Dr Uma Eleazu. The meeting tackled some of the challenges in the organization and promised a resolution to the crisis in the southeast.

Below is the communique issued by the group and it reads as follows:

An Extraordinary Meeting of the Concerned Stakeholders of Ala-Igbo, was held on Wednesday May 11, 2022 at the Chike Nwizu Hall, Cathedral Church of the Good Shepherd, Achi Street, Independence Layout, Enugu. There was in-person and virtual attendance, including representatives of Ohanaeze affiliate associations both in Nigeria and the Diaspora.
Dr. Uma Eleazu was unanimously nominated to Chair the Meeting and he graciously accepted and presided. In addition to the Report of the Representatives of Igbo Archbishops & Bishops, which was the prime reason for the Meeting, with a view to the resolution of the crisis in Ohanaeze and unity of Ndigbo, the Meeting also considered other matters of urgent importance, including the quest for a Nigerian President from Ala-Igbo.
The Report of the Representatives of Igbo Archbishops & Bishops on the crisis in Ohanaeze was presented to the Meeting by the Secretary of the Representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops by Most Rev. Prof. E.A. Ituma, on behalf of Archbishop C.R. Opoko. The Report was accepted, deliberated upon and was adopted.
After all deliberations, the Meeting resolved as follows: –
1. That the recommendations of the Representatives of Igbo Archbishops & Bishops have been accepted in their entirety for implementation. Accordingly, the new unifying National Executive Committee of Ohanaeze is constituted with the Leadership as follows: President General – Prof. George Obiozor; Deputy President General – Barr. Uche Okwukwu; Secretary General – Prince Okechukwu Nwadinobi.

2. That, following from 1., the meeting adopts the decision of the Joint Body (JB) of the Representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops, and the South East Council of Traditional rulers to, within one month, meet with Prof. Obiozor to task him on the implementation of the recommendations contained in the report of the Representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops, without further ado.
3. That the Joint Body of South East Council of Traditional Rulers and the Representatives of Igbo Archbishops & Bishops, who have been playing a lead-role on the matters concerning Ala-Igbo is called upon, as a matter of extreme urgency, to convene a closed- door meeting with South East Presidential aspirants and other key stakeholders. The meeting will approve strategies for the deployment of human and material resources to ensure victory in the quest for the emergence of Ndigbo as Presidential candidates, in the key political parties, vis-à-vis the strategic relevance of the Igbo nation in the Nigerian question.
4. That Concerned Stakeholders of Ala-Igbo should sustain the process of reconciliation and restoration of unity and peace in the South East. Concerned Stakeholders will promote dialogue with all identifiable individuals, groups and associations for truth, forgiveness, reconciliation and restoration in the South East.
5. That Concerned Stakeholders of Ala-Igbo is also appreciative of the selfless efforts and sacrifice of Representatives of Igbo Archbishops & Bishops towards the restoration of a united Ohanaeze and peace in Ala-Igbo.

6. That Concerned Stakeholders of Ala-Igbo is also immensely grateful to the South East Council of Traditional Rulers who, working together with the Representatives of Igbo Archbishops & Bishops, as the Joint Body (JB), have made available their intellectual resources, wisdom and blessings, in defining a path of renewal for Ndigbo and Ala-Igbo.
7. That Ndigbo are to be rest assured that all matters concerning their wellbeing and state of affairs will henceforth receive appropriate response. Ndigbo are hereby enjoined as Christians to fast, pray for forgiveness and seek the face of God for the emergence of God’s chosen people in all aspects of the leadership of our homeland.
