The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially welcomed its newly appointed National Commissioner, Jamila Abubakar Sadiq Manafa, following her inauguration by the President.

INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, described her appointment as both timely and crucial, noting that it comes at a significant moment as the Commission ramps up preparations for upcoming electoral activities. He explained that her inclusion restores full representation for the North-East geopolitical zone after a prolonged vacancy, thereby strengthening the Commission’s capacity for effective decision-making.

Amupitan highlighted the new commissioner’s diverse background in law, military service, and logistics, expressing confidence that her experience will enhance key areas such as election planning, security coordination, and dispute management. He reiterated INEC’s dedication to fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities, stressing that the Commission remains focused despite evolving challenges.
According to him, preparations are already underway for various electoral exercises, including by-elections and other off-cycle polls, which will serve as critical tests of the Commission’s readiness ahead of the 2027 general elections. These include the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for January 2027, as well as governorship and state assembly polls in February.
The INEC chairman encouraged the new commissioner to actively engage in the Commission’s work, collaborate with colleagues, and leverage institutional knowledge to help deliver credible, transparent, and inclusive elections.

In her remarks, Manafa expressed gratitude for the warm reception extended to her by the Commission. Speaking at INEC headquarters in Abuja, she appreciated the leadership and members for welcoming her into what she described as a new professional family.
She acknowledged the recognition of her military background and expressed confidence that her experience would contribute meaningfully to the Commission’s operations. The new commissioner also voiced optimism about working collaboratively to promote national development and stability.
She concluded by offering prayers for the success of INEC’s future activities, the safety of its staff and their families, and the overall progress of the nation, while expressing honour at the opportunity to serve in her new role.
