Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to openly dissociate himself from reports suggesting that a political group is promoting him for a presidential bid.
In a statement posted on his social media platform, Keyamo described the development as an absurd political spectacle and faulted those allegedly attempting to project Jonathan as a presidential candidate without his direct involvement.
According to the minister, it was inappropriate for individuals who are not recognised political stakeholders to claim they were offering a presidential ticket to the former president. He argued that the move was misleading and disrespectful to Jonathan’s status as a former head of state.
Keyamo also questioned the legitimacy of those behind the campaign, noting that they were not listed among registered political actors on the platform of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He maintained that dragging Jonathan into what he described as a futile political venture was unfortunate and unnecessary.
The minister further called on the former president to publicly reject any association with the reported initiative, stressing that such a clarification would help protect his reputation both within and outside Nigeria.
Keyamo warned that remaining silent could reignite public scrutiny of Jonathan’s administration and revive discussions about the circumstances surrounding his defeat in the 2015 presidential election, when he became the first sitting Nigerian president to lose a re-election bid.
